BORN BEVERLEY 28/04/1896.  ELDEST SON OF SAMUEL & ANNIE LOFT OF 37 GROVEHILL, BEVERLEY. BEFORE THE WAR HE WAS A SHIP'S JOINER APPRENTICE AT GROVEHILL SHIPYARD. AS A BOY HE WAS ALSO A LEADING TREBLE IN MINSTER CHOIR.

HE ENLISTED IN DECEMBER, 1914. TRAINED FOR FIVE MONTHS IN DUBLIN, IRELAND. ATTACHED TO THE MUNSTER FUSILIERS AND LEFT FOR THE DARDENELLES, ON 6TH JULY 1915. WOUNDED IN ACTION. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, TWO DAYS LATER, AT GALLIPOLI. HE WAS 19 YEARS OLD. HIS YOUNGER BROTHER, JOSEPH WAS IN TRAINING WITH THE 5TH YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, IN NEWCASTLE. HDM 20/09/1915.
