BORN HULL 1897. SON OF THE LATE CHARLES T. NEEDLER AND SOPHIA NEEDLER, WHO LIVED AT 4, EPPING TERRACE, RODNEY STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS)
EMPLOYED AS A BACON ROLLER.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 10/12/1915, AGED 19 YEARS AND 3 MONTHS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 7 INCHES TALL, 36 INCH CHEST, AND "GOOD" PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT. TRAINED AS A BOMBER. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 06/05/1916. SERVED IN "D" COMPANY, 8TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. HE WAS KILLED AT THE SOMME, ON 18/08/1916, AGED 19. KILLED BY A HIGH EXPOSIVE SHELL WITH TWO OTHERS.
HIS NAME IS LISTED ON CLIFTON STREET SCHOOL ROLL OF HONOUR. HE IS BURIED AT DANTZIG ALLEY BRITISH CEMETERY, MAMETZ.
HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOWED MOTHER. HE ALSO LEFT OLDER BROTHERS, CHARLES, AND GEORGE WHITFIELD NEEDLER.
