BORN MARKET WEIGHTON, 1886. SON OF FREDERICK WILES & MARY JANE DODSON, OF CHERRY BURTON, EAST YORKSHIRE. HE WAS ONE OF ELEVEN CHILDREN.
HIS WIFE, MABEL, LIVED AT NEWLAND, HULL. THEY HAD TWO CHILDREN. EMPLOYED AS A WIREMAN AND HULL POST OFFICE WORKER.
HE ENLISTED IN LEEDS. ATTACHED TO G.H.Q. SIGNAL COMPANY, ROYAL ENGINEERS. KILLED IN ACTION AT GALLIPOLI, ON 18/08/1915, AGED 29. HIS BODY WAS NEVER FOUND. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL TIMES, ON 25/08/1915.
COMMEMORATED ON THE HELLES MEMORIAL, GALLIPOLI.
HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, WHO MOVED TO 14 MIDDLESBOROUGH ROAD, SOUTH BANK, MIDDLESBOROUGH, YORKSHIRE.
HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE CHERRY BURTONWW1 MEMORIAL.
