Hull Pals Memorial Post. PRIVATE ARTHUR JACKSON 12/940. Born in North Dalton, East Yorkshire in 1880. Arthur was the youngest of two sons to Samuel and Betsy Jackson of 10 Queen Street, Driffield (Pension Ledger Address). He worked before enlistment at the NER (Docks) Department in Hull, for some years. His brother served in the Navy. It seems that the family fell on hard times as the 1891 Census finds both brothers in the Driffield Workhouse. By 1911 Arthur was lodging with the Jennison family at 19 Hudson Street, North Dalton and working as a Dock Labourer in Hull, and it was in the latter he enlisted in the 12th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, 'The Sportsmen', 3rd Hull Pals. He was killed in action on 18th August 1916 and buried in Le Touret Military Cemetery; he was 36 years old. Arthur Jackson was unmarried and he left his mother a healthy allowance from his pay. His death is reported in the Hull Daily Mail on the 9th September 1916.

HE IS BURIED AT LE TOURET MILITARY CEMETERY, RICHEBOURG-L'AVOUE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, FROM HIS MOTHER, READS, "I LOVE HIM STILL"
