Born Patrington, 1887, Son of John and Elizabeth Appleby, of Patrington, Hull. he had one sister, Edith. A bricklayer, by trade. described as 5 foot, 10 inches tall, 9 stone, 7 lbs, 34-36 inch chest, blue eyes, auburn hair, fresh complexion, scars on left jaw, right eyebrow, boil scar on shoulder, Church of England Religion.
William Taylor Appleby arrived in Australia, on 24/05/1913. He enlisted at Melbourne, on 29/01/1915. Attached to 4th Australian Imperial Force, No: 2 Company. Died at Heatherton Sanitorium, Victoria, from Tuberculosis on 15/11/1915 Melbourne, Australia, 138 days after enlisting in the Australian Armed Forces, aged 27. He is buried at Cheltenham Cemetery, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
His army effects were left to his parents, at 48 Milton Avenue, Seamer Road, Scarborough, Yorkshire.
He is commemorated on the Patrington Memorial Tablet at St patrick's Church, but listed as serving in the 7th East Yorkshire Regiment?
