BORN HULL 1889. SON OF GEORGE E. & ANNE PRISCILLA (MADDISON) OF 92 GRAFTON STREET, HULL. HE HAD AN ELDER BROTHER AND FIVE SISTERS.

WORKED AS A SHIPPING CLERK.

HE MARRIED CLARA MAY WELSON AT SCULCOATES HULL, IN 1913, HIS WIFE CLARA MAY ALEXANDER & TWO CHILDREN LIVED AT  121 BELVOIR STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS).

HE ENLISTED IN THE HULL COMMERCIALS (10TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT). SERVED IN EGYPT AND FRANCE. SURVIVED THE SOMEE AND OPPY WOOD BATTLES. TRANSFERRED TO THE 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE BATTALION. HE WAS KILLED AT POPERINGE, ON 22/04/1918, AGED 29. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, CLARA MAY.

HE IS BURIED AT HARINGHE (BANDAGHEM) MILITARY CEMETERY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, "ON THE RESURRECTION MORNING SOUL AND BODY MEET AGAIN, NO MORE SORROW NO MORE WEEPING, NO MORE PAIN"
