Winestead ww1 Memorial

BORN HULL 1895.  SECON SON OF FRED JEFFERSON (1872-1950) & EDITH ELLEN JUBB (1869-1950), WINESTEAD, OF ROOS AND HULL.

WORKED AS A COW BOY ON A FARM IN WELNICK, PATRINGTON.  HE ENLISTED AT HULL. JOINING THE 13TH HULL PALS. SERVED IN EGYPT AND FRANCE. SURVIVED THE SOMME AND OOPY WOOD. HE TRANSFERRED FROM THE 13TH TO THE 7TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT AND WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 24/08/1918, AGED 23.

UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER FRED. HE ALSO LEFT FOUR BROTHERS ROBERT, FREDERICK, REGINALD AND STANLEY JEFFERSON.

HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE WINESTEAD WW1 MEMORIAL, WITH 20 MEN, INCLUDING 6 WHO DIED IN WW1.
