BORN HULL 1896. ONLY SON OF WILLIAM HENRY MATTHEWS & ANN (CONROY), OF 4, RILEY TERRACE, COURTNEY STREET, HULL (1901 CENSUS ADDRESS) & 6, WENTWORTH STREET, HU3 2AX. (HULL DAILY MAIL ADDRESS, 30/10/1917).
HE WAS MARRIED AND LIVED AT 11, HIGSON'S COURT, BLANKET ROW, HULL. BEFORE THE WAR HE WAS A CORPORATION DUSTMAN.
ENLISTED HULL. SERVED AS A DRIVER, IN THE ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY, ATTACHED TO THE TRENCH MORTAR BATTERY. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 06/10/1917, AGED 21. "HE LEFT A SORROWFUL MOTHERS AND SISTERS, ANNIE AND LIZZIE."
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 6TH NOVEMBER 1917, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *.
