Born Pocklington, East Yorkshire, 1888. Son of Edwin Kirby, of 15, Prospect Place, Market Rasen, Lincoln. A Farm Labourer.
Enlisted at Market Rasen, Lincolnshire. Served with the 2nd Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action, on 20/08/1916, aged 33. Awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal and Croix de Guerre (France).
Buried in France. His grave inscription, reads, "HIS KING AND COUNTRY CALLED HIM THE CALL WAS NOT IN VAIN".
His army effects were left to his sister, Mrs Elizabeth Allgood.
