JAMES IRVING BOYNTON
BORN HULL 29 Mar 1888. SON OF EDWIN IRVING & MARY ELIZABETH BOYNTON. A MARINE TRAWLER ENGINEER. MARRIED AT HULL, IN 1914. HIS WIFE FRANCES ROSE BOYNTON, LIVED AT 41, HAVELOCK STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). THERE IS NO CWGC RECORD OF HIS DEATH. HOWEVER HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE TRINITY CHURCH ROLL OF HONOUR. THIS IS HIS 1918 ABSENT VOTERS ADDRESS. HIS BROTHER JOHN IRWIN BOYNTON ALSO SERVED FROM THIS ADDRESS.
He served on the SS Idaho, built by W. Gray & Co. Ltd., West Hartlepool in 1899 and owned at the time of her loss by The Shipping Controller (H. Samman & Co.), London. It was a British steamer of 3023 tons. On August 18th, 1918, Idaho, on a voyage from the Clyde in ballast, was sunk by the German submarine U-107 (Kurt Siewert), 120 miles NxW1/2W of Cape Villano. 11 persons were lost.
