BORN HULL 1899. SON OF MICHAEL GALLAGHER (1857-1929) AND (ANN) ELIZABETH THOMPSON (1867-1949) 10 AUSTIN TERRACE, WARWICK STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). A FORMER OIL MILLER. HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 23/03/1917, AGED 18 YEARS AND 9 MONTHS. TRAINED AT WITHERNSEA WITH THE 6TH EYR.. ARRIVED IN FRANCE ON 05/01/1918. POSTED TO THE 7TH EYR. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 24/08/1918, AGED 20. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS PARENTS. HE WAS BROTHER TO ANN ELIZABETH, JAMES PATRICK (WHO SERVED IN FRANCE), MARY AGNES, FRANCES ELLEN AND FLORENCE GALLAGHER.

HE IS BURIED AT MILL ROAD CEMETERY, THIEPVAL. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, "GOD REST HIS SOUL"
