BORN KEYINGHAM, 07/08/1880. FIFTH SON OF JOHN GOUNDRILL (1842-1925) AND HARRIET BLAGG (1843-1924), OF MAIN STREET, KEYINGHAM. ONE OF NINE CHILDREN. SEVEN BROTHERS AND SISTER, EMILY.

WORKED AS A FARM SERVANT AND GROOM. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 3.5 INCHES TALL, 142 LBS WEIGHT, 35.5 INCH CHEST, GOOD PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT.

ENLISTED IN THE HULL PALS, ON 19/12/1914, AGED 32 YEARS AND 330 DAYS. TRAINED AT BEVERLEY AND RIPON. SERVED WITH THE 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, IN EGYPT AND FRANCE. TRANSFERRED TO THE 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE BATTALION. KILLED IN ACTION, AT ST QUENTINE, ON 07/10/1918. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, HARRIET.

HE IS BURIED IN FRANCE . HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, "TO MEMORY DEAR OF HIM WHO FELL LOVED BY THOSE HE LEFT".

HIS NAME IS LISTED ON THE COTTINGHAM MEMORIAL.
