BORN HULL 11/12/1891. ONLY SON OF WILLIAM & ELIZABETH HORNBY, OF 4, YORK STREET, HULL.

HE HAD TWO SISTERS, ADA AND ANNIE. HIS MOTHER DIED IN 1894 & HIS UNCLE & AUNT, GEORGE & JULIA HORNBY, OF 55, EGTON STREET, HULL, PLAYED A LARGE PART IN HIS LIFE. WILLIAM WORKED AS AN OIL MILL LABOURER, LIVING AT 55, EGTON STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS).

WILLIAM MARRIED ELSIE DUNCAN IN JULY 1914. THEY LIVED AT 24, WARWICK STREET, HEDON ROAD HULL. HE LEFT BEHIND A SON GEORGE WILLIAM HORNBY (1916 -1972) & TWO SISTER'S ADA & ANNIE HORNBY.

PTE. WILLIAM HORNBY, SERVED IN THE 1/4TH EYR. DIED OF WOUNDS AT THE SOMME, ON 17/09/1916, AGED 25.

HE WAS LISTED ON THE SPYVEE STREET ROLL OF HONOUR & THE KINGS HALL CHURCH ROH, SYMONS STREET, HULL.

HE IS BURIED AT HEILLY STATION CEMETERY, MERICOURT-L'ABBE, SOMME, FRANCE.
