BORN HULL 1882. SON OF SAMUEL NORTON (1852-1932) & MARY FARMERY (1847-1912), OF 11 WILLOW GROVE, LAKE STREET, HULL. HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND ONE SISTER. WORKED AS AN OIL MILL MOULDER. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 9 INCHES TALL, 144 LBS WEIGHT, 38-40.5 INCH CHEST, TATTOO ON LEFT ARM.

HE MARRIED ELIZABETH MCKIE, ON 26/11/1904, AT HULL. THEY HAD FOUR CHILDREN. LVED AT 6 ASH GROVE, DALTON STREET, HULL AND 5 LEO AVENUE, ARUNDLE STREET, HULL.

ENLISTED HULL, ON 14/07/1916. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 22/04/1917. SERVED WITH THE 6TH EAST YORKSHIRES. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 21/08/1917, AGED 35. COMMEMORATED ON THE YPRES MENIN GATE MEMORIAL, BELGIUM.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, ELIZABETH.
