HE ENLISTED IN BEVERLEY ON 22/09/1916, AGED 39. FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 33050, EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT DEPOT. TRANSFERRED TO THE 13TH AND 25TH DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY WORKS BATTALION, ON 02/10/1916. DIED AT READING WAR HOSPITAL, SECTION NO:5, OF A CEREBRAL HAEMORRHAGE, ON 08/10/1916, AGED 39 YEARS AND 9 MONTHS. BURIED OVINGTON (ST. MARY) CHURCHYARD, ESSEX, UK
HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, LILY MARY AGER PLUM, (BORN 10/10/1878). THEY HAD TWO CHILDREN, EDITH DORIS SMITH (BORN 14/03/1906) AND JOHN WILFRED SMITH (BORN 10/11/1908). THEY WERE AWARDED A WEEKLY PENSION, ON 22 SHILLINGS AND 11 PENCE, ON THE 09/04/1917. THEY MOVED TO 25/29 NILE STREET, HULL (PENSION LEDGER ADDRESS)
