BORN HULL 1896. SON OF CHARLES HENRY WHEELDON (1864-1919) & ELIZABETH FRANKISH (1862-1919), OF 14 MILNER ROAD, ATTERCLIFFE, SHEFFIELD. EMPLOYED IN A STEEL FOUNDRY. HE ENLISTED ROTHERHAM. AND WAS A RGULAR SOLDIER WHEN WAR BEGAN. HE WAS SENT TO FRANCE, ON 14/08/1914, WITH THE BRITISH EXPEDITIONARY FORCE. SERVED AS A GUNNER IN THE ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 10/09/1917, AGED 22. BOTH HIS PARENTS DIED IN 1919. HE LEFT SIBLINGS CLARENCE AND GLADYS. HE IS BURIED IN BELGIUM, AT CANADA FARM CEMETERY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, "GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS".
