BORN ANLABY, HULL, 1896. SON OF RICHARD MARTIN WITTY (1856-1938) & RACHEL WILSON WITTY, of NETTLETON, CAISTOR, LINCS. A FARM WORKER. HE HAD THREE BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS. HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED IN THE 7TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 24/08/1918, AGED 22.
HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, RACHEL. BURIED AT POZIERES BRITISH CEMETERY, OVILLERS-LA BOISSELLE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, "THE LORD GAVE AND THE LORD HATH TAKEN AWAY"
