RANDOLPH RODERICK BATEMAN

Born Hull, 27/01/1900. Son of James Bateman (1864-1941) and Ruth Barnes Chilvers (1865-1948), of 7, Myrtle Grove, Lorraine Street, Hull (war Pension address). He had three brothers and seven sisters. Employed as an Oil Miller. He enlisted in Hull, on 02/03/1916. Mobilized on, 28/02/1918. Described as 5 foot, 3.5 inches tall, 33-35 inch chest. Served as Private, 45397, 1st Oxford & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. Posted abroad, on 28/08/1918. Left Italy, end of March 1920. Attached to the Royal Munster Fusiliers, in November 1919. Spent 9 weeks in hospital, in Italy, Calais and Kilsea, Portsmouth. Died at home, on 18/09/1920, aged 20. His army effects went to his mother, Ruth at the Pension Ledger address.
His brother, Able Seaman, Jonas James Bateman, TZ/7775, Royal Naval Division, was a Prisoner of war and also received a war pension.
