FRANCIS PHILIP CROKE

Born Beverley, Yorkshire 10/03/1895. Son of Dr, Thomas Joseph Croke (1845-1928) and Gertrude Dooley (1862-1912), of 20, Albion Street, Hull (1901 census) and 169, Hessle Road Hull (1911 census). His parents were both born in Ireland. Son a physician, with three Surguries on Albion Street, Hessle road and Holderness Road. His father was also Town Councillor for the Beverley Ward for three years. He came from a deeply Catholic family. He had two brothers and four sisters. All the Croke boys became priests, two sisters were nuns of the Irish Sisters of Charity, another joined the Carmelite Order, the other married a French Doctor.
A Dental Student. Described as 5 Feet, 8 Inches, Brown hair, Medium Build, Grey Eyes, Ruddy complexion. Traveled to USA to stay with brother, Thomas. Arrived at New York, on 7 Nov 1915, to study at Pennsylvania University. His occupation was also given as Jesuit Priest.
He enlisted in the US Infantry. Died of influenza, after 6 weeks service, on 07/10/1918, aged 23. Buried Philadelphia Baltimore Cemetery, Pennsylvania, USA.
FP Croke is listed on the WW1 Memorial at St Charles Borromeo Church, Jarratt Street, Hull.
As an American serviceman there are no UK, CWGC or War Pension records for him.
