Background

Born Hull, 1888. son of Sarah Hawthorn at 13, Gordon Terrace, Buckingham Street, Hull. His mother was from Devonport and worked in Hull as a soap packer. She married and became Sarah Watson, living at 3, Daltry Street, Hessle Road, Hull (1911 Census). He had a younger brother, Tom Hawthorn.

Ernest Hawthorn worked as a general Labourer, living with Cousins, at 13, Verandah Avenue, Somerscales Street, Hull.

Served as a Gunner, in the East Riding, Royal Garrison Artillery. Discharged on 19 Mar 1919. Died at Hull, on 17 Sep 1922, aged 34.

After the war he was out of work for The Hull New Concrete Stone Co, Builders, Lorraine Street, Stoneferry, Hull.

Married at Hull, on 22/3/1913. His army effects were left to his war widow, Harriet Ethel Reeves, at 1, Ashton Terrace, Waltham Street, Hull (War Pension address)
