BORN HULL 1883. SON OF JOHN WILLIAM NEWMARCH (1855-1903) & MATILDA MARY AISTROP (1855-1928), OF 2 LITTLE GOODWIN TERRACE, JANE STREET, HULL.
ONE OF SEVEN CHILDREN. A TANNER'S LABOURER. HE MARRIED EDITH CLARA UPTON (1882-1957), IN HULL, ON 01/06/1906. THEY LIVED AT 25, CHARLOTTE STREET, HULL AND 3, CHAPEL TERRACE, BEAN STREET, HULL, WITH THEIR SONS, ROBERT AND HARRY. BEFORE THE WAR ROBERT WORKED AT HOLMES TANNERY, CAMPBELL STREET, HULL. HE RESIDED AT 3, CHAPEL TERRACE, BEAN STREET, HULL.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS A SERGEANT, WITH THE 10TH KING'S OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY. KILLED IN ACTION AT THE SOMME, ON 17/09/1916, AGED 34. HE IS COMMEMORATED AT THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 24TH OCTOBER 1916, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH.*
HIS BROTHER, HERBERT NEWMARCH, WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 09/04/1917, AGED 29.
