BORN NAFFERTON 22/04/1881. SON OF HENRY BARR AND ANNE FORBES - 1, BELGRAVE VILLAS, CARTWRIGHT LANE, BEVERLEY. SERVED SIX YEARS WITH THE COLDSTREAM GUARDS IN 1906. WORKED AS A CARTER AT MARKET GREEN , COTTINGHAM.

HIS WIFE LAURA LIVED ABOVE -1911 CENSUS. THEY HAD A SMALL SON, HARRY BORN IN 1910.

WORKED AS A GALVANIZER IN CANADA. HIS ARMY RECORDS DESCRIBE HIM AS 6 FOOT 2 INCHES TALL, 41 INCH CHEST WITH A SIX INCH EXPANSION, BLUE EYES, BROWN HAIR, FAIR COMPLEXTION. TATOOS ON BOTH ARMS AND A SCAR ON HIS FOREHEAD.

ENLISTED IN THE CEF ON 11/03/1915. CSM, JAMES BARR WAS AWARDED THE MILITARY MEDAL.

HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE COTTINGHAM WW1 MEMORIAL, HALLGATE & THE BEVERLEY WW1 MEMORIAL
