BORN HULL 1879. SON OF ROBERT NICHOLSON (18441893) AND CHARLOTTE NICHOLSON (1852-1934), OF 73 PORTLAND STREET, HULL. ONE OF NINE CHILDREN.

HUSBAND OF ROSA DOWNES, OF 40, DAY STREET, HULL. THEY HAD THREE CHILDREN, LUCY MAY, GEORGE AND ELSIE, BORN BETWEEN 1906-1910..

HE ENLISTED AT HULL. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 13046, EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. AWARDED THE MILITARY MEDAL (MM) FOR BRAVERY. TRANSFERRED AS PRIVATE, 36590, 7TH SHROPSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 02/09/1918, AGED 39.

HIS WIFE WAS CONSIDERED AN "UNWORTHY MOTHER" (WAR PENSION RECORDS). HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS AUNT, EDITH NORTON. HE ALSO LEFT HER £342 IN HIS WILL. 44 GOODWIN STREET WAS HIS PROBATE ADDRESS.

BURIED AT VRAUCOURT COPSE CEMETERY, VAULX-VRAUCOURT, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, "THY WILL BE DONE".
