Background

BORN SUTTON, HULL 1895. ONLY SON OF THOMAS JOHN BARNARD & HANNAH MARY BARNARD (1901 CENSUS ADDRESS), AND 52 PRESCOT STREET, LIVERPOOL. HIS FOUR OLDER SISTERS LIVED AT 182 WAVERTREE ROAD, LIVERPOOL.

HE ENLISTED AT LIVERPOOL, ON 11/04/1912, JOINING THE LIVERPOOL IRISH BATTALION. SENT TO FRANCE ON 3/05/1915, HE WAS WOUNDED IN THE BACK AND DIED OF WOUNDS ON 2/09/1918, AGED 20. AMONG THE PERSONAL EFFECTS RETURNED TO HIS MOTHER WERE A MOUTH ORGAN, 2 PIPES AND A SHAVING BRUSH.
