JAMES BRODERICK
BORN HULL 1892. ELDEST SON OF JAMES BRODERICK (1867-1938) AND THERESA BRODERICK (1868-1939), OF 65, VICTOR STREET, HOLDERNES ROAD, HULL (1911 CENSUS ADDRESS). HIS FATHER WAS BORN IN STOCKPORT, CHESHIRE. HIS MOTHER WAS BORN IN LEEDS. SON OF A SHIPYARD RIVERTER. ONE OF TEN CHILDREN. HE HAD SEVEN SISTERS AND TWO BROTHERS. HE WAS EMPLOYED AS A PAINT SHOP ASSISTANT.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 26975, 8TH WELSH REGIMENT. HE TRANSFERRED TO THE 9TH WEST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. POSTED TO THE DARDENELLES, ON 11/07/1915. WOUNDED AT GALLIPOL. DIED OF WOUNDS AT THE 21ST GENERAL HOSPITAL, ALEXANDRIA, EGYPT, ON 17/09/1915, AGED 23.
BURIED AT ALEXANDRIA (CHATBY) MILITARY AND WAR MEMORIAL, EGYPT.
AWARDED THE 1914-15 STAR, BRITISH WAR MEDAL AND VICTORY MEDAL.
HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO MRS ROSANNA McGARRY.
NOTE HIS SURNAME IS SPELT "BRODRICK" IN SOLDIERS DIED RECORDS AND BRODERICK IN CWGC RECORDS.
