BORN LINCOLN 1889. SON OF ALEXANDER RANDOLPH COLBY AND ELIZABETH FISH, OF 21 MORTON STREET. A FORMER TIMBER YARD WORKER, ON HESSLE ROAD. HE ENLISTED IN LINCOLN, ON 13/04/1907. SERVED SEVEN YEARS WITH THE 1ST LINCOLNS (FOUR YEARS IN INDIA). ARRIVED IN BELGIUM WITH THE BRITISH EXPEDITIONARY FORCE. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 8803, 1ST LINCOLNSHIRE REGIMENT. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 27/08/1914, AGED 25. MARRIED FOR ONLY 4 MONTHS. HE LEFT A WIDOW, ELLEN REYNOLDS AT 6 WASSAND STREET, HULL.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 01/12/1914 & 05/12/1914, AND THE HULL TIMES, ON 28/11/1914, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *

HE IS BURIED AT BETHENCOURT COMMUNAL CEMETERY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, "THEIR GLORY SHALL NOT BE BLOTTED OUT"
