BORN HULL 10/09/1898. SON OF JOHN CHARLES GODDARD (1865-1934) & MARY JANE HOYLE (1869-1933), AT 17, CHURCH LANE, HIGH STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS) AND HESSLE, EAST RIDING. THE SECOND OF THREE SONS.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 81975, TERRITORIAL RESERVES. TRANSFERRED AS PRIVATE, 38991, 8TH BATTALION, KING'S OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY. HE DIED OF WOUNDS IN ITALY, ON 27/08/1918, AGED 19. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER JENNIE.

HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE HESSLE ROLL OF HONOUR, ALL SAINTS PARISH CHURCH (98 NAMES).

HE IS BURIED, AT CAVALLETTO BRITISH CEMETERY, SICILY, (Plot 1, Row A, Grave 17). HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, "GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN"
