BORN HULL 03/03/1885. SON OF ANN ELIZABETH NEALE  & THE LATE JOHN WALKER HICK, OF 2 PARK STREET, ANALBY ROAD, HULL AND 4 BAKER STREET, HULL. HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND ONE SISTER. HE WAS SON OF ROYAL NAVY SEAMAN. HIS BROTHERWERE AN OIL CLERK AND BUTCHER. HIS SISTER HANNAH GERTRUDE, RAN A WELL KNOWN SINGING AND DANCING SCHOOL, AT BAKER STREET, HULL.

HE ENLISTED IN THE ROYAL  NAVY ON 21ST NOVEMBER 1906. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 4.5 INCHES TALL, HAZEL EYES, DARK BROWN HAIR

MARRIED AT LEWISHAM, LONDON, APRIL, 1910. HIS WIFE VIOLET MARY PUPLETT (1886- ) & SON, HUBERT, LIVED IN LONDON (10, Ackroyd Rd & 47, Ewart Rd, Forest Hill, SE23).

A RESERVIST. HE WAS CALLED UP WHEN WAR BEGAN. HE SERVED IN THE BATTLES OF JUTLAND AND ZEEBRUGGE. HIS SHIP "DIDO", WAS SUNK, NEAR THE DUTCH COAST, ON 15/08/1918. A SURVIVOR STATED HE JUMPED IN THE SEA TO SAVE A COMRADE. HE DIED OF SEVERE BURNS AT HARWICH HOSPITAL, AGED 32.

HE IS BURIED AT HITHER GREEN CEMETERY, GREENWICH S.E LONDON.

HE IS COMMEMORATED ON ST CHARLES BORROMEO ROLL OF HONOUR, JARRATT STREET, HULL.
