BORN HULL 1898. SON OF EMMA ROWDEN (1868-1945) & THE LATE PATRICK McCORMICK (1865-1911), OF 9, DERBY STREET, BEVERLEY ROAD, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS).
A ROMAN CATHOLIC, FROM AN IRISH FAMILY. HIS MANY SIBLINGS DIED IN INFANCY. HIS FATHER DIED IN 1911. HE HAD ONE SURVIVING BROTHER, GABRIEL McCORMICK (1906-1956).
BEFORE THE WAR, HE WAS A STUDENT AT USHAW COLLEGE, DURHAM, A CATHOLIC SEMINARY.
HE ENLISTED IN DURHAM. FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 29573, ROYAL DUBLIN FUSILIERS. HE TRANSFERRED AS PRIVATE, 26251, TO THE 7TH ROYAL IRISH RIFLES. PROMOTED CORPORAL. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION ON 02/09/1918, AGED 20. HE IS BURIED IN BELGIUM. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, "R.I.P."
HIS ARMY EFFECTS AND WAR PENSION WENT TO HIS WIDOWED MOTHER, EMMA.
HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE ST CHARLES BORROMEO CHURCH WW1 MEMORIAL, JARRATT STREET, HULL.
BURIED: Dranoutre Military Cemetery, Heuvelland, Arrondissement Ieper, West Flanders (West-Vlaanderen), Belgium.
