BORN HULL 1888. ONLY SON OF MICHAEL LYDON (1848-1922) AND ANN PRENDAGAST (1856-1931), OF 7, UNION SQUARE, NEW GEORGE STREET, HULL. A GENERAL LABOURER. HIS ONLY SISTER, MARY RHODES LIVED AT 12 MARVEL STREET, HULL.
HE MARRIED CLARA ELLERINGTON (1889-1957), AT ST PAULS CHURCH, HULL, ON 18/05/1918. HIS WIFE MRS CLARA LYDON LIVED AT 8, ALICE PLACE, REFORM STREET, AND 27, CHRISTOPHER STREET, CHARLES STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). THEY HAD THREE CHILDREN.
HE ENLISTED AT HULL, ON 23/11/1914, AGED 27 YEARS AND 2 MONTHS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 3.5 INCHES TALL, 136 LBS WEIGHT, 36 INCH CHEST, TATTOO ON RIGHT FOREARM. TRAINED AT BEVERLEY, RIPON AND WITHERNSEA. SERVED WITH THE 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT (HULL PALS) IN EGYPT. ARRIVED IN FRANCE ON 08/03/1916. WOUNDED BY A BULLET IN THE LEFT SIDE, ON 01/07/1916. INVALIDED TO ENGLAND ON 05/07/1916. HE WAS AWARDED THE MILITARY MEDAL (MM) FOR BRAVERY ON 15/07/1916. (LONDON GAZZETTE 17/12/1917). RETURNED TO UNIT IN FRANCE ON 22/12/1916. TRANSFERRED TO THE 6TH EAST YORKSHIRE PIONEERS. PROMOTED TO SERGEANT, ON 08/12/1917. HE WAS HELPING TO EVACUATE A HOSPITAL ON FIRE, WHEN HE WAS KILLED ON 13/03/1918, AGED 30. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 3 YEARS AND 111 DAYS.
