Born Warter, Pocklington, East Yorkshire, 22 Feb 1891. Son of Leonard Nicholson (1860-1949) and Sarah Ann Deighton McHolom (1859-1928), of Market Weighton, Yorkshire.
He was footman, working at Kibworth Hall, Leicester (1911 census). Then joined the East Riding police as a Constable.
Enlisted at Beverley in 1913. Served as a Lance Sergeant, with the 8th Seaforth Highlanders. Posted to France, 9 July 1915. Killed in action, at Loos, on 25 Sept 1915, aged 24.
Commemorated on the Loos Memorial, France. His army effects were left to his father, Leonard.
He is commemorated on the East Riding Police memorial Plaque, WW1, at St Mary’s Church, Hengate, Beverley (out of the 20 Policemen listed as killed, ten served with the Seaforth Highlanders). Also remembered on the ww1 Memorial, Howden Minster Churchyard.
