Born Hull, 1889. Son of John and Isabel Greenwood, of 91 Clarendon St Spring Bank Hull (1911 Census) & 18, Percy Street, Hull (CWGC address).
Son of a Grain Porter. He had two brothers and one sister. Employed as a Fitter Labourer.
Enlisted at Beverley. Served with the 2nd East Yorkshire Regiment. Posted to France, on 15 Jan 1915. Killed in action, on 23 Apr 1915, aged 24.
Commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial, Belgium.
His army effects were left to his youngest sister, Marie.
His brother Henry Horace Greenwood, served in the Army Service Corps. His brother Selwyn Greenwood served in the Duke of Wellington’s (West Riding) Regiment and was killed on
