chapelry from Cottingham in 1862. It had been renovated several times and by the time of WW1, St Johns, Newland, was a new looking church, on the outskirts of Hull, largely surrounded by farms and fields. Rapid house building between 1890-1915 transformed the Parish, into a new desirable location. Newlands became the preferred home of the Merchant Class’ with over 100 shops on Newland Avenue alone. Many of the addresses during WW1 still exist today.

ST JOHN’S CHURCH FIRST WORLD WAR MEMORIAL, Newland, Hull

The St John WW1 memorial, takes the form of a wooden Panel Board, listing 182 names.
